National Honor Society Selection
As we prepare for the National Honor Society Induction, let’s take a moment to review the selection process we utilized this year.
First, students who met the scholastic requirement of a 3.5 cumulative GPA were notified of their eligibility on September 2nd, 2025.
Eligible candidates were then asked to attend one of two informational meetings held September 11th and September 12th, 2025 to learn more about National Honor Society and gain an understanding of the selection process.
Anyone wishing to move forward with the selection process was given the deadline of September 26th, 2025 to complete the selection packet. The selection packet consists of permission forms, teacher recommendation forms, and sections for the student to record his or her service, school and community activities. The selection packet is posted on the high school web-site and a Google Classroom for students to access and use.
After September 26th, once all selection packets and teacher recommendations have been collected, the Faculty Selection Committee (comprised of 5 teachers, with the advisers serving as non-voting members) will convene to make final selections as to who will be invited to be inducted into the 2025 Northwest High School National Honor Society chapter. The National Honor Society advisers are not voting members of the Selection Committee.
The inductees will be notified of their status by current NHS officers through a process called “pinning” held on October 3rd, 2025. Pinning is when the inductee is officially given notice that he or she has been selected to join NHS. An NHS officer will hand each inductee a scroll inviting him or her and his or her family to the induction ceremony. This year, the induction ceremony will be held on October 23rd, 2025. The ceremony takes place in Puffenberger Hall with a reception of light refreshments to follow the induction ceremony. A short, mandatory practice will be held on October 22nd, 2025 in Puffenberger Hall.
The majority of the process is dictated by the National Chapter (more information can be found at National Honor Society Website), but the local chapter does have some discretion in making the process successful for our situation. Dates and times, for example, can be determined by the local chapter.
