Beginning of Year Details
Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! Below are a list important dates and changes for the start of the school year that you will want to make note of before we return to school in a few weeks.
1) Freshmen/New Student Orientation - Wednesday, August 12th @ 6pm in Puffenberger Hall. This event will last no more than 1 hour with the intention of introducing your student to "all things" high school. Those able to join should plan to park outside Puff Hall and enter the building through Door F.
2) Freshman First Day - Thursday, August 20 with doors opening at 7:10am and the day officially at 7:25am. This will be the first day of high school for ALL FRESHMEN students and will be geared towards acclimating them to high school life.
3) First Day for all students- Friday, August 21 with doors opening at 7:10am and the day officially at 7:25am.
4) Book bags - Northwest High School has made the transition to students not carrying book bags throughout the building this coming school year. Students are more than welcome to bring there bag into the building at the beginning of the school day but will need to place them in their lockers prior to their first class of the day. As a result we will be adjusting the bell schedule to include 1 extra minute (3 times during the day) to allow students to visit their lockers. The goal is to reduce the extra clutter in the classroom allowing for more movement and flow inside the classroom.
5) Parking Spaces - The 50 parking spaces located off the corner of the building closest to Mrs. Bednarczyk's and Mr. Ferrell's rooms has been designated specifically for SENIOR students to paint and park in. Other drivers wishing to drive to school can park in the Fieldhouse or Puff parking lots. The spaces along Erie Ave (in the front of the building) will be designated for staff parking this year. Student drivers will also need to fill out their paperwork and display their parking tag (picked up in the main office when your paperwork is completed and parking fee paid) when parking in the school parking lots.
6) Cellphones - Just a reminder that the high school will remain cellphone free from 7:25 to 2:20. Last year students did an amazing job meeting the legislation adopted by the Gov DeWine.
We are excited for the start of another great school year.. GO INDIANS!
